Beenie Man - Setting The Trend Pt.2

Peppa Pot: How you feel about the progression of dancehall in the States?

Beenie Man: Dancehall get bigger. Its something that dancehall did want. To be on BET and MTV and get the millions of interviews and all of these things. Its a life long dream that come through. Some people have dream and it turns into a nightmare. My dream became vision and vision became reality. Thats how it is.

Peppa Pot: In the States you have laid a lot of ground work. You have had songs with such notables as Big Pun, Mya, T.I., R. Kelly, ect. Do you feel at times your contribution to dancehall in the States gets overlooked?

Beenie Man: It not overlook. My glory dont come in one day. Mi put out an album and it sell gold the company done with it. By the two years go over it sell over a million close to two million. Then the next album do the same thing. So it s a longevity thing its not a quick thing - sales stop and then a next album. My career and my music over the years evovle and it sell more. The longer it out there the more it sells. You have new fans and new kids growing up in the business who may know King of the Dancehall, Dude, or Hum Hum now. Them want to know where Beenie Man is coming from so they go and get the old songs and then bring themselves up to date to in terms of being a fan of I and I [me].

The work that we re doing in the business - it nice. I dont care if people want to over look what i ve done. Its there in the history and it cannot change.

Peppa Pot: In December 2005 you performed at Sting [Portmore] then went to the other side of the island and peformed at Teen Splash in Oracabessa, and still came back to close the show at Sting. Where do you find the energy?

Beenie Man: The energy comes from the people. Once the people turn out to see you perform them give you that energy. The feeling that someone need to see you that means your needed you re somebody. If you leave 5,000 people over ya so [here] and you go over ya so [there] and ah 10,000 people over de so [there]. Them ah wait pon you. So its not for you to come tired, weak and lame out. It s for you to come with all the energy you can give.

So me working at Teen Splash for an hour and a half and come back to Sting is an everyday thing. Its what you have to do you know?

Peppa Pot: You ve recorded over 1,000 songs during your career. Do you ever get confused on stage?

Beenie Man: The lyrics are yours. All you have to do is hear it one time and its like a bicycle - you just gwan peddle.

Peppa Pot: You ve achieved so much - what else is there?

Beenie Man: Just more. More Grammys, more MOBOs, more platinum plaques, more gold plaques. Its music you know. Its like Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan won six rings. From the first two he could have stopped. Its more. You have to enhance on what you do best. Ya man.

Peppa Pot: What s going on with Mafia House?

Beenie Man: Im currently working a new label. I have Don Mafia, D Angel. Recently we moved Tanto Metro and Devonte from Shocking Vibes and put them over on Mafia House. Its the same company because Shocking Vibes is my company, but Shocking Vibes now becomes the mother company that controls Mafia House. You understand? We signed Shocking Vibes to an international company which I need not to disclose yet because its not Virgin. So that ready.

Peppa Pot: You have a club in the Bahamas, Shocking Vibes - how important is it for you to do things other than deejay?

Actions:

Beenie Man: Well is very very important. In Jamaica I have houses I deal with real estate and music. Because I have kids, six (6) kids, and my woman [D Angel] is pregnant. My kids them have to have things in this world. They have to come and see what their father has worked for and left for them. They re going to reap the legacy of my seed that i ve sown. So to have many things and to be involved in many business is great.

Right now mi need fi buy a plane. That mi need fi buy. Private Jet business. Ya. [laughs]

Peppa Pot: Lastly "Swing it Weh" is doing well on Peppa Pot. You ve been dancing since Word Dance [1995].

John Hype

Beenie Man: Well is I start it. The whole dancing trend, Black Roses Crew. World Dance and all of these things. Buju [Banton] did sing the first dancing song, Bogle. Beenie Deejays "Bogle, Bogle ah di order ah di day" But him never did work with the dancers dem. Now mi work with the dancers dem and then mi sign John Hype. Then after mi sign John Hype you have ten million man jump up seh dem a dancer. So the trend is really me responsible for it you know. So again - mi set di trend. Its a great thing because dancer fi eat food too. Yeah ...its a great ting man.

DABLUE22 ah seh:
mi love beenies work still but him need fi humble. He didnt start the first dancing trend or formulated anything new. Dancing songs have been around from the inception of jamaican music. all the way back in the 60s during the ska era. Him need a humble thought like Buju. Cause him new album is the weakest album hes ever released this was a dud.
When did he ever go platinum i dunno i dunno which single that unless is the one he did with Janet.
Him cross the line from him disregard greats like Yellowman who really set the trend
If it wasnt for men like Yellowman no dj now would havebeen this successful suh him need fi check himself hype has an expiry date and goin blow up in his face if him continue suh.

DJ FORDY ah seh:
Beenie is simply too full of himself. He needs to look up the word humilty and allow people to recognize his work. Beenies problem is that dispite all the international recognition, hes not recognized by his own peers. All the artistes, disc jocs and sound system operators of significance over the last 8-10 years identify bounty, buju and shabba as the DJs they emulate/rate. Beenie is confused, he cant understand how hes been so successful internationally, yet hes not the one his fellow djs talk about. Busy signal says his inspriation comes from bounty killer, Kartel says bounty is him daddy, bounty is Aidonias grandfather, Movado worships bounty. Buju is bountys friend and so is sizzla. On to the sound systems: Bass Odysey only plays bounty killer. Tony Matterhorn is Mr. Bounty Killer, so is Foota Hype and many others. All the people who matter in the business rate the killer. Now if any of you out there want to believe that Beenies relationship with Angel is a co-incidence, I laugh at you. Beenie is smarter than he gets credit for. The most ratings you can get in Jamaica is to take a mans woman from him. Beenie is on a path to make bounty out as a punk. Its the last title for beenie and hell do anything to get it. beenie Man is the best dancehall entertainer and hes also the best manipulator. Ask Capleton, hell tell you.

realgirl ah seh:
Beenie a talk his mine and he has a lot to do with the dancehall evolution but some time him must just humble and low the likkle boy thing out like cussing over gal and a trace with some likkle ediot dj boy thats not in his class. He is much smarter and bigger than that, He is married now and he is one of Jamaicas most successful hardworking artist so he needs to just start a fresh page with Mafia House and avoid the clashing and tracing over woman, its a new year and we no in the foolishness with these artists we want good reggae music like what Buju delivering to us. Beenie me want me gal song them stop trace boy and sing them give me songs like Humm and proper fix. Bounty is not humble niether he needs to get over Angel and move and come out with some wicked tunes and come done the place star me caan tek the tracing and clashing star over one gal, a wha do the King them star ,unite and run the place again man. Dont have to be personal friends but peace a that me say.

realgirl ah seh:
THE CLASHING THING NO MEK IT BECAUSE YOU CAN CLASH AND WIN AND NOTHING NOT GOING ON FOR YOU. and you loose and have album out there and songs that are selling off and a mashup the place so we all no Bounty is better with the gun songs for the clash but Beenie career sell off from ever since so the clashing no prve nothing to me. Is who sell me a talk bout man like Buju SeanPaul, Shaggy and Junior Gong. Not who can spit gun lyrics best for example Kartel can spit gun tunes but him have him gal tunes them a done the place to and sensesible tunes like Emergency. Artists must be versatile and be professionals and not area dons are try to end no other artists career i hate that. Thats just plane badmine to me thats why I love artist like Asassin and Buju so much.Peppapot a tru you dont know how I rate them man there.

dj fordy it seem as if ur jealous of the doc.If u know reggae history,u would remember that Bob Marley was not given his respect in jamaica until he died.It was Toots, desmond decker, max romeo etc.& see,Bob became the face of jamaica.Beenie is asked questions and when he response u say he is too full of of himself. He has what to brag about...the fans love him ...look at his record sale.Stop hating
