The Grammy committee is contemplating splitting the Reggae Grammy category into traditional reggae and dancehall categories (More). Should they? Yes. Why, because Reggae and Dancehall are disparate genres - they re similar but not the same. How can you compare Trinity to Lava Ground or Bling Dawg to Burning Spear? The problem then lies with how the Grammy s are chosen. A specific category must have 25 or more albums per year to choose from. That s difficult in my opinion for a singles driven market such as reggae (More). So the Grammy s should judge both categories by a different standard. The main reason being the fact that Reggae and Dancehall music are not American so how can it be judged by American standards?
Then the categories should be televised (More) but I am not going to push it - for now.
So I took the liberty of creating my own Grammy list complete with Reggae/Dancehall separation:

Vybz Kartel - Many big tunes for the year (Emergency, Realest Ting, Neva Love, ect) and he found time to get married. - Timeless.
